We are pleased to announce the publication of the fourth edition of the CODE-YAA@PC-EDU Newsletter, highlighting the project’s achievements, scientific contributions, educational activities, and international collaborations from April to September 2026.
As the COST Action CODE-YAA@PC-EDU (CA22127) enters its final project period, this edition offers an overview of the progress made towards strengthening palliative care education across Europe and beyond. From international conferences and educational initiatives to research collaboration, advocacy, and science communication, the newsletter reflects the collective efforts of our growing European network.
Advancing Research, Education and International Collaboration
Over the past months, CODE-YAA@PC-EDU members have actively contributed to scientific exchange and professional development through several important events and initiatives.
One of the major highlights was the 20th EAPC World Congress in Prague, where Action members presented scientific findings, promoted the project’s quality indicators for palliative care education, and engaged with researchers, healthcare professionals, and organisations from across Europe and beyond.
The project meetings in Málaga, Spain, and Liepāja, Latvia, provided valuable opportunities to strengthen coordination among working groups, review progress, and plan the next stages of the Action.
Another significant achievement was the CODE-YAA Summer School 2026 in Pamplona, Spain, which brought together educators, researchers, and healthcare professionals for an intensive programme exploring leadership, ethics, communication, curriculum development, and quality improvement in palliative care education.
International knowledge exchange continued through the Short-Term Scientific Mission at the University of Tartu, Estonia, where researchers advanced the analysis and practical application of the CODE-YAA quality indicators. Meanwhile, the Swiss Educators Exchange created an opportunity for professionals to compare educational approaches and discuss the integration of quality indicators into different training contexts.
Celebrating Achievements and Expanding Our Impact
This edition also highlights the contributions and achievements of CODE-YAA members beyond the project’s regular activities.
Among these are the presentation of CODE-YAA research at the 18th International Palliative Medicine in Practice Conference in Gdańsk, Dr Vilma Tripodoro’s Best Oral Presentation Award at the Best Care for the Dying Person Summer School, and Action Chair Piret Paal’s TEDxUniversityofTartu talk, exploring the cultural dimensions of dying and the importance of person-centred end-of-life care.
The newsletter also introduces an important step in translating research into practical recommendations: the development of three CODE-YAA Policy Briefs targeting educational institutions, policymakers, and clinicians and researchers. These resources aim to support evidence-informed decision-making, strengthen advocacy, and encourage improvements in palliative care education.
Looking Ahead: The Final Project Period and Upcoming Events
With CODE-YAA@PC-EDU approaching its conclusion in September 2027, the newsletter also looks towards the important activities planned for the Action’s final year.
Upcoming highlights include the Final COST Action Meeting in Lithuania on 7–8 April 2027, participation in the 21st EAPC World Congress in Glasgow on 20–22 May 2027, and the CODE-YAA Summer School on Quality Indicators, Implementation and Advocacy in Palliative Care Education, hosted by Fondazione FARO ETS in Turin, Italy, on 16–18 June 2027.
These events will provide further opportunities to share project outcomes, strengthen international collaboration, and support the long-term application of the CODE-YAA quality indicators.
