Education in palliative care plays a crucial role in ensuring that healthcare professionals have the necessary knowledge and skills to provide quality care to patients with serious illnesses. Meetings and projects involving experts from various fields such as medicine, nursing, psychology, social work, and more can help in sharing best practices, research findings, and innovative approaches to education in palliative care.
That was the purpose of the first CODE-YAA@PC-EDU face-to-face Working Group meeting, which took place at Ibis Yerevan Center in Armenia on June 27-28, 2024. There were about 25 participants from a large number of countries, and many others who joined the meeting remotely online.
The meeting began with the welcome speech of Artashes Tadevosyan, Head of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Organization (Yerevan State Medical University). He highlighted the importance of the project, especially in terms of the scale of the participating countries and representatives.
Then the Head of the Program, Piret Paal, provided updates on the project (increase in the number of participants (135 people from more than 20 countries), scholarships and grants, new milestones and approaches to achieve the goal, etc.). Also, the leaders of the working groups (Stephen Mason, Phil Larkin, Gil Goldzweig) contributed with their presentations about the progress of research within each working group.
The first day’s meeting was focused on Quality Indicators and Interdisciplinary collaboration between the participants. This was an amazing brainstorming session between two groups of participants (face to face and online), using the Nominal Group Technique (NGT) to refine and rank quality indicators for Palliative Care education, which will be used for the Delphi process.
The second day’s meeting was devoted to improving participants’ knowledge and summarizing their experience in different areas, so three excellent workshops were organized: Workshop 1: “Advocacy” (M. Hökkä / T. Pastrana); Workshop 2: “Mentorship” (O. Riklikiene / M. Nevin); Workshop 3: “Impact” (P. Paal).
During the productive days of the CODE-YAA Working Group meeting, there were meaningful discussions that will greatly impact the direction of the project. The collaborative atmosphere and collective knowledge within the consortium have led to the emergence of creative ideas and strategic progress.
We appreciate everyone’s active participation!
