The workshop “Leadership in Curriculum Design” was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Jose Pereira with the support of co-facilitator Tania Pastrana. The session focused on how effective leadership can guide the design, implementation, and evaluation of meaningful educational programmes in palliative care. Participants explored key curriculum development frameworks, including the ADDIE Model, Kern’s Cycle for Medical Curriculum Development, and rapid prototyping, highlighting how structured yet flexible approaches can support educational innovation.
The workshop also addressed the relationship between competencies, learning objectives, and Bloom’s Taxonomy, emphasizing the importance of translating broad professional expectations into specific, measurable learning outcomes. Through examples such as decision-making at the end of life, participants reflected on how curriculum design should connect knowledge, skills, and attitudes with real clinical and ethical challenges. The session provided a practical foundation for developing learner-centred, competency-based, and context-sensitive palliative care education.
